In January 2015, I began my professional relationship with SOLTEL. After a three-month internship and six months as a trainee, I was offered my first employment contract. This marked the beginning of my personal and professional growth as a developer, working alongside experts in the IT sector.
Despite being just another member of the team, I always had the support of my colleagues whenever I encountered any technical difficulties during my first stint as a professional. However, I could also see my own progress as a coach, because with effort and perseverance, I needed less and less help from my teammates and was even able to contribute on numerous occasions, earning their recognition.
After my first year as a professional, I was given the opportunity to lead my first project. This allowed me to perform tasks that, until then, had only been carried out by colleagues in higher roles. I was no longer just responsible for programming, but also for various project management activities such as client relations, estimating, valuations, analysis, and so on. From then on, I gradually improved and gained a great deal of experience through different projects and technologies.
Shortly after this, following my work managing my first project, I was assigned to one of SOLTEL's oldest projects, a service still in operation today. This project was more challenging due to the variety of applications it involved, encompassing different technologies. However, I wasn't intimidated and embraced it as a new personal challenge. This project would involve more direct client contact, but that didn't deter me. I must be doing something right if, after almost two years leading the project, everything is still running smoothly! And what began as a challenge is now a normal part of my daily routine.
As my career progressed, I also received salary increases, fulfilling the career plan I had been promised. I started with a salary appropriate to my position as an intern, and in about three years I became a full-fledged senior programmer.
It has been three years and four months since I started my career as a programmer at SOLTEL and I am proud to look back and see how I have progressed to the point of being one more member of the team, who can also lend a hand when someone needs it and even have contact with some of the clients we work for.
At Soltel, I've learned a tremendous amount, especially about very different technologies, since the model is based on multidisciplinary teams, or full-stack teams as they're now called, supported by technology experts. I feel fortunate to have encountered so many professionals in my life who have allowed me to learn from them and become who I am today. That's why I believe it's essential that companies provide opportunities and support to young people starting their careers, enabling them to enter the job market and learn from technicians with many years of experience.
I hope to continue learning every day at SOLTEL and keep discovering new technologies, because as many know, in programming it's "adapt or die".
Signed: Alejandro
