Soltel presents SMARTOM at Fruit Attraction 2019

On October 24th, the SMARTOM Operational Group ‘Comprehensive management platform for the cultivation of industrial tomatoes’ presented its project to the attendees of Fruit Attraction, from the stand of the Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food (MAPA).

This opportunity, facilitated by Soltel as the Group's Representative Member, allowed our colleague Miguel Ángel Oliva to present the objectives and expected results of this ambitious project. The Operational Group's presentation was followed by a tomato-based cooking demonstration, featuring a salad with cherry tomatoes, lettuce, cheese, and pumpkin seeds, which was then sampled by the attendees.

The SMARTOM project aims to digitally transform the processing tomato industry by applying innovative technologies across the entire value chain. The platform monitors the crop, supporting decision-making and enabling a rapid and efficient response to problems that arise on the farm. It also incorporates predictive algorithms to facilitate harvest planning, estimating the optimal harvest time based on the tomatoes' maturity level and the expected yield per plot.

Los objetivos del sistema son:

  • Monitoring the maturity and production of the plot.
  • Monitoring the water and nutritional status of the crop.
  • Early detection of pests and diseases
  • Optimization of inputs: irrigation, fertilization and phytosanitary products.
  • Logistical planning of the harvest.

To achieve this, the platform integrates data from various systems:

  • Image (RGB, hyperspectral, thermal) obtained on foot and from drones.
  • Climate and soil sensors.
  • Data provided by the user (field notebook).

The information is displayed in the form of specific dashboards, alerts and alarms, with a simple and agile user interface to help in decision making.
