Soltel is learning firsthand about the work of leaders in electrical appliance recycling to promote the C-SERVEES project

Technical visit to the Basque territory to gain in-depth knowledge of the process that will be managed through the collaborative tool

The Soltel technical team involved in developing the collaborative tool for C-SERVEES has been in Bilbao for two days to learn firsthand about the work of the leading recycling companies in the Basque Country. Coordinated by Francisco Quintero, Director of Operations Solutions for Public Administrations, the Soltel project coordinators are participating in the regular C-SERVEES meeting, which includes a visit to the facilities of two partners, Indumental Recycling and Gaiker, to gain a detailed understanding of the electronic device recycling process.

C-SERVEES is an innovative project for recycling electrical and electronic equipment, major pollutants. Funded by the European Union under the Horizon 2020 program, this international initiative aims to promote a resource-efficient circular economy in the electrical and electronics sector. Its objective is to change how electronic products are developed and consumed, proposing new approaches to purchasing and using electronics that reduce waste generated in this sector and give materials and products a second life.

Soltel is part of the consortium as an ICT company tasked with developing a collaborative tool for information exchange among different stakeholders in the value chain throughout the lifecycle of various electrical and electronic objects and products. A thorough understanding of this process is essential for this development. Therefore, at the meeting currently being held in Bilbao, representatives from the various partner companies involved in the project visited two of the other partners.

At the Indumetal Recycling facilities, they were able to learn about the working methods of a pioneering company that is also one of the leading players in the recycling of electrical and electronic equipment and complex scrap metal in Europe. The factory recycles more than 30,000 tons of electronic equipment (WEEE) and complex scrap metal annually, achieving increasingly higher recycling rates in accordance with environmental regulations.

Gaiker, for its part, is a private technology center, a non-profit entity dedicated to research and providing technological and innovative services to companies.

Soltel has given a very positive assessment of the C-SERVEES meeting and the visit to the factories that promote recycling, considering that all of this provides them with more elements to ensure that the design of the project's collaborative tool is even more in line with market realities.
