Over its two-year duration, the participating partners have developed and validated a new circular economy business model in four specific products: printers, washing machines, televisions and ALM
Soltel has recently completed a European circular economy project. The technology firm developed a collaborative tool that facilitates information exchange among the various stakeholders in the electronics and technology sector's value chain throughout the entire lifecycle of these devices, with the aim of promoting reuse, repair, and the efficient recovery of products and treatment of waste.
For the project, which has lasted two years, a consortium of companies was created, of which Soltel has been the ICT firm in charge of developing the information exchange tool between the different actors in the value chain during the life cycle of electrical and electronic products.
Coordinated by Francisco Quintero, Director of Operations Solutions AAPP, Soltel designed and developed a platform that has served as a communication channel. This platform has connected producers, recyclers, production workshops, and end users, enabling them to share useful product information, such as repair and disassembly manuals, as well as information on specific components to extend their lifespan.
C-SERVEES has taken on the challenge of promoting a resource-efficient circular economy in the electrical and electronic (E&E) sector by developing, testing, validating and transferring new circular economy business models (CEBMs) based on systemic eco-innovative services that include: the green leasing of EEE (electrical/electronic equipment), product customization, improved management of REEE (recycled equipment) and ICT services in support of other eco-services.
To complete its function, ICT tools have been developed as the engine of eco-innovative services that allow making the most of the potential and synergies of the two great revolutions of our time: the circular economy and Industry 4.0.
FINAL MEETING
The project partners held a meeting in Brussels to mark the project's conclusion. Soltel sent its Director of Operations for Public Administration Solutions and several of the technicians who developed and managed the collaborative tool.
Following this final consortium meeting, the project's closing event took place, organized in collaboration with the ReCiPSS project, entitled "Paving the way for innovative Circular Economy products and services in the electronic and automotive sectors: Lessons learned and way forward". It analyzed the main results and conclusions of both C-SERVEES and the ReCiPSS project.
The conclusions drawn have been translated into recommendations for the European Union on the Circular Economy, highlighting the importance of reusing components in a sector as polluting as electrical and electronic equipment, and how to do so effectively. In fact, some of the companies that launched C-Servees are currently considering projects based on the experience gained from this initiative, which will expand its reach and help to further protect the environment, the project's primary objective.
