Soltel leads a consortium of companies endorsed by the Ministry of Agriculture for the improvement of tomato cultivation

At Soltel, we are constantly working on digital transformation and process improvement across various sectors. In the SmarTom initiative, we coordinate a group of key organizations to create a Comprehensive Management Platform for Tomato Cultivation.

The Supra-regional Operational Groups and EIP-AGRI

Innovation is an essential tool for achieving a sustainable and competitive agricultural and forestry sector within Europe. The EIP-AGRI Interregional Operational Groups (GOS) are teams of people working together on an innovation project funded by Rural Development Programs (RDPs). They are the EIP-AGRI's main tool for transforming innovative ideas into real solutions for the sector.

Operational Groups bring together collaborators with complementary expertise. The group's composition may vary depending on the specific topic and objectives of each project. Farmers, advisors, scientists, businesses, and other relevant partners work together to try to find practical solutions to specific problems faced by people in the agricultural and forestry sectors across Europe.

Each group is associated with its innovation project, remaining so until the innovation is implemented. The results of this project are shared with the wider EIP-AGRI network so that those facing similar challenges in Europe can benefit from them.

Every Operational Group begins by identifying a problem or an innovative idea that can be tested. The idea must always address a specific problem faced by European farmers or foresters.

Objetivo SmartTom

The overall objective of the project is to optimize the use of agrochemicals and other inputs in processing tomato cultivation, improve quality, and facilitate the comprehensive management of the processing tomato growing cycle by focusing on various critical processes such as plant health, irrigation, fertilization, and harvesting based on the optimal ripening point. All of this will be managed through a platform that supports decision-making in key processes, thereby achieving better productivity and more sustainable cultivation.

In particular, SOLTEL contributes its experience in the development of interoperable, standards-based systems, along with the exploitation of knowledge generated on the platform by developing intelligent systems to aid decision-making.
