Industry 4.0Artificial Intelligence (AI)

Artificial Intelligence, our vision

A few years ago, we talked about artificial intelligence as if it were science fiction. But as time has gone by, we see that it is more real than we thought.

Today, AI is implemented in many computer systems that we use daily, such as the voice recognition system called Siri.

Some people may not be clear on what AI is. Artificial intelligence consists of simulating human intelligence through computer systems. These systems attempt to implement learning, reasoning, and self-correction to solve problems.

Types

There are several types of technologies:

-Machine Learning

Its goal is to develop techniques that allow computers to learn by creating programs capable of generalizing behaviors from supplied information.

Machine learning has a wide range of applications, including search engines, medical diagnostics, credit card fraud detection, stock market analysis, DNA sequence classification, speech and handwriting recognition, games, and robotics.

-Neural Networks

These are machine learning algorithms and computational models designed to function like neurons in the brain. They are trained with diverse data, which they use to find an answer to a problem.

-Genetic Algorithms

These are algorithmic optimization machines that learn by mimicking the evolutionary process using natural selection, recombination, and mutation. They are particularly effective at optimizing problems with a large number of possible solutions.

Induction algorithms

These are algorithms that learn from an example and try to find patterns in the data to create rules that explain what is happening on the fly.

-Deep Learning

These are algorithms that build and form multi-layered neural networks. These neural networks are capable of learning from experience, drawing inspiration from some principles of brain function.

-Expert Systems

They are an older form of AI technology that was originally designed to solve complex problems by making decisions based on a knowledge base and rules for applying that knowledge. Because of their more sophisticated, data-driven, and statistical approaches, newer machine learning models can make more effective decisions than expert systems.

Uses

As technology becomes more sophisticated, the use of AI continues to grow rapidly. Increasingly, AI is being used for core business purposes, including market forecasting, understanding customer behavior, automating repetitive tasks, and even acting as a 24/7 monitor that reports anomalies.

These are the numerous areas of application:

Management and control: intelligent analysis, goal setting.

Manufacturing: design, planning, programming, monitoring, control, project management, simplified robotics and computer vision.

Education: practical training, exams and diagnosis.

Engineering: design, control and analysis.

Equipment: design, diagnosis, training, maintenance, configuration, monitoring and sales.

Mapping: interpretation of photographs, design, solving cartographic problems.

Professions: law, medicine, accounting, geology, chemistry.

Software: enseñanza, especificación, diseño, verificación, mantenimiento.

Sistemas de armamento: electronic warfare, target identification, adaptive control, image processing, signal processing.

Data processing: education, natural language interface, intelligent data access and database managers, intelligent data analysis.

Finance: planning, analysis, consulting.

The development and adoption of AI are growing rapidly, driven by faster and cheaper processing power, high technological development, the possibility of using cloud-based systems, and the urgent need to manage data overload.

Artificial intelligence will play a prominent role in the future, as it can boost labor productivity not through increased machine hours, but through innovative technologies that allow for more efficient use of human time. This will enable people to focus on more complex tasks, while machines handle simpler processes. It is poised to revolutionize everything; it will not only be crucial for key aspects of many businesses, but it will also open countless doors for companies of all sizes and professionals across all sectors.

Watson

One of the artificial intelligence computer systems is Watson. This system, developed by IBM, is capable of answering questions posed in human language.

WatsonPower7

Watson answers questions using a vast database. The information in this database comes from many sources, including dictionaries, encyclopedias, news articles, and even external databases. It analyzes these thousands of data points to provide a coherent answer and solve the problem or question presented, learning from its mistakes and successes to increase its success rate.

In 2011, Watson managed to defeat A in a television quiz show called Jeopardy! The veteran of the program, Ken Jennings. That was a demonstration of talent, but Watson needed to grow and mature. Currently, Watson is 240% faster than the one that won the competition and 16 times smaller.

The software used in Watson is written in the Java and C++ programming languages and uses two frameworks: Hadoop for distributed computing and the UIMA system for analyzing printed materials. It also uses DeepQA software for hypothesis generation, massive evidence collection, analysis, and scoring, and the SUSE Linux Enterprise Server 11 operating system.

Watson has multiple applications in many sectors; some of its applications are:

Análisis de comportamiento del consumidor

Thanks to Watson's ability to interpret human language, it can develop comprehensive analyses of users' consumption patterns.

Personal shooper

Travel Agent

There is an online service called WayBlazer that implements Watson, with the goal of offering advice based on the analysis of travelers' preferences expressed in social profiles and in interactions through natural language.

IBM believes its machine is ready for anything and is looking to expand the fields it can be used in, mainly motivated by the idea of marketing this product and transforming it into something that will be part of everyday life in just a few more years.

In the healthcare sector, it can be truly useful, as it can advise doctors, create diagnoses, or even discover drugs. In fact, Watson is already being applied in this field, since  The pharmaceutical company GlaxoSmithKline, in collaboration with IBM, conducted an experiment to test Watson's capabilities in this field. The computer was given all the available texts on malaria, along with information on existing malaria drugs and chemical compounds. As a result, Watson "invented" several known malaria drugs, as well as fifteen other potential alternatives.

In the future, Watson could save numerous lives and boost human development, and perhaps that future is not so far off.
