In its commitment to contributing to the generation of socially valuable products and services through innovation, Soltel It is launching a new, innovative project within the health sector for the development of an advanced digital platform that optimizes the management of clinical trials through artificial intelligence (AI) and connectivity with the European Health Data Area (EHDS)This project is financially supported by the European Union through the Next funds Generation EU within the framework of the 2024 call for the granting of aid, in the field of digitalization, for the digital transformation of strategic productive sectors through the development of technological products and services for Data Spaces, of the State Secretariat for Digitalization and Artificial Intelligence (Ministry of Digital Transformation and Public Function).
Digital health is undergoing a major transformation, driven by the increasing digitization of the sector, the expansion of connected devices, and the massive generation of health data. This evolution opens up opportunities to improve healthcare, promote research and innovation, and strengthen the digital economy.
The multicenter clinical trials Clinical trials are characterized by collaborative research efforts involving multiple clinical centers and, sometimes, more than one country to recruit and treat subjects. These studies are essential when a single hospital lacks the capacity to recruit enough patients to meet research objectives. However, they face significant challenges, such as difficulty in participant selection, data fragmentation, and a lack of interoperability between healthcare systems. Furthermore, compliance with regulations such as the GDPR and the EHDS is crucial to ensuring data security and sovereignty. Currently, clinical research needs advanced digital tools to optimize these processes, reduce costs, and accelerate biomedical innovation in Europe.
In this context, the main objective of SmartTRIAL is to develop an advanced digital platform that enables the management and optimization of multicenter clinical trials within the European health data ecosystem, contributing to Intelligent Participant Selection (AI), Interoperability and Connection with the EHDS, Centralized Trial Management, Data Security and Privacy, and Research Support.
SmartTRIAL will combine the power of artificial intelligence with a collaborative environment adapted to the EHDS guidelines and data protection regulations.
Through this platform, the aim is to boost efficiency and quality in conducting trials, reduce recruitment and analysis times, and enhance collaboration between healthcare centers, placing participating entities at the forefront of clinical innovation in Europe.
This project enhances the use of data to improve the efficiency of clinical trials, reducing recruitment and analysis times, and facilitating collaboration between healthcare centers, leveraging the synergies created by the EHDS and ensuring the responsible and secure use of health data. With SmartTRIAL, clinical research will be able to leverage fully utilizing the resources of the European Health Data Area, moving towards more agile, collaborative, and patient-centered trials, and reinforcing the position of the participating centers as benchmarks of biomedical excellence.
